The Paleo Zone
Nutrition is a touchy subject. Some people see it as religion, others as science.
Regardless of your viewpoint, we’ve all heard the quip, “you are what you eat.” It is a simple statement, only five words, but the importance of its message cannot be understated.
We are what we eat, how could it be any other way?
Webster defines nutritionas follows:
the act or process of nourishing or being nourished; specifically: the sum of the processes by which an animal or plant takes in and utilizes food substances.
The word nutritionis often associated with the word diet. I usually see the word diet used in two different ways; “tell me about your diet” and “I’m on a diet.”
The former use of the word refers to “habitual nourishment”, while the latter is more in line with, “a regimen of eating and drinking sparingly so as to reduce one’s weight.”
Webster defines dietas follows:
a: food and drink regularly provided or consumed
b: habitual nourishment
c: the kind and amount of food prescribed for a person or animal for a special reason
d: a regimen of eating and drinking sparingly so as to reduce one’s weight (going on a diet)
My Experience With Nutrition
“If you’re training people, you’ve got one oar in the water if you are not talking to them about nutrition.” – Greg Glassman
