Fifty-eight percent of people who graduate high school, but do not attend college, will not read another book for the rest of their life.
Can you believe that?
Never again! Not even one book!
I just finished reading Jeff Olson’s book The Slight Edge. It is a deep read with statistics, motivation and calls to action that will truly transform your way of thinking. I’ve read a lot of good books in my day, but if I had to recommend one book for setting your mind straight on what it takes to be successful, this would be it.
The gist of the book is that the difference between success and failure is only slight. The daily disciplines that will lead to success are easy to do and they are easy not to do.
Here is a graphic of his that will help you understand the Slight Edge concept:
As I venture into the uncharted waters of business and life, I am always looking for an edge. The edge could come in the form of seeking advice, in the form of working all night long, or in the form of hiring a consultant. However, where I’ve found the most success is in reading books. I have the chance to put new concepts into practice on a daily basis, so what I read I can translate into action almost immediately. Jeff explains a concept called “Study, Model, Do.” It has to do with studying a subject, modeling your behavior after a mentor, and then doing. The critical part is the doingpart. We can fall into “Paralysis By Analysis,” but I’m more a fan of “Ready, Fire, Aim!” I don’t know what is the best advice I could give you, but I know that there’s power in doing. The plan doesn’t have to be perfect, but the plan has to be started. As I’ve said before, “the hardest thing to get is going.” Once you’re on your way, then you’re on your way. My advice to you today is to purchase Jeff Olson’s book and start reading it.
- Personal Development
At the end of the book, you’ll set a dream/goal, a plan to start, and a daily discipline for each of these.
Whether you’re looking to clean up your eating (Paleo), get back on track with your fitness, find financial freedom, grow more meaningful relationships, achieve happiness, etc… this book is for you!
It’s not about having a million dollars, it’s about having a million-dollar mindset.
It’s not about being given everything, but about starting with something. Give the book a read!
To Jeff Olson,
Thank you for shedding some light on the world. Reading your book was an amazing journey in itself, but the journey has only begun.
I now understand the power of the water hyacinth, the penny and the frog in the cream.
I now set forth to make goals of my dreams.
“Keep It Paleo!”
